Resolution, night vision, parking mode — modern dash cams do a lot. Here’s how to pick the right one and why professional installation matters.

Dash cams have evolved from grainy novelties into essential vehicle accessories. Whether you want protection against insurance fraud, theft documentation, or just peace of mind, here’s what to look for in 2025.

Resolution

1080p is the minimum you should consider. 2K (1440p) offers noticeably sharper footage — especially for reading license plates. 4K is available but generates massive files and the real-world benefit over 2K is marginal for most drivers.

Night Vision

Look for cameras with Sony STARVIS sensors — they’re the gold standard for low-light performance. Good night vision is arguably more important than resolution, since most incidents happen in poor lighting conditions.

Parking Mode

Parking mode activates recording when the camera detects motion or impact while your car is parked. This is invaluable for hit-and-run documentation and break-in attempts. It requires hardwiring to your vehicle’s electrical system — which is where professional installation comes in.

Front + Rear

Dual-channel systems (front and rear cameras) provide complete coverage. Rear cameras are especially useful for documenting rear-end collisions and tailgaters.

Why Professional Installation?

A properly hardwired dash cam has no dangling cables, maintains parking mode functionality, and looks completely clean. Our installations tuck all wiring behind trim panels for a factory-finished appearance. We also set up the camera’s WiFi app so you can easily review and download footage from your phone.
