Can my car get a remote start? Will it void my warranty? How far does it work? We answer the most common questions we hear at the shop.

Remote start is one of our most popular installations — especially during Pacific Northwest winters. Here are the questions we get asked most often.

Can Any Car Get a Remote Start?

Almost any vehicle — manual or automatic, push-button or key start — can have a remote start system installed. Some vehicles with complex security systems require additional bypass modules, but we’ve never turned away a vehicle we couldn’t equip.

Will It Void My Warranty?

No. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a dealer cannot void your warranty simply for installing aftermarket equipment. They would need to prove the specific modification caused the specific failure — which a properly installed remote start system won’t.

How Far Does It Work?

Range depends on the system. Basic one-way remotes work from about 1,000-1,500 feet. Premium two-way systems (like Compustar) can reach up to a mile. Smartphone-connected systems (like DroneMobile) work from anywhere with a cell signal.

Is It Safe?

Yes. The vehicle locks the doors during remote start, the parking brake must be engaged (on manuals), and the car shuts off immediately if someone presses the brake pedal without the key present.

How Long Does Installation Take?

Most installations take 3-4 hours. More complex vehicles with advanced security systems may take a full day. We always test every function extensively before handing back the keys.

What Do You Recommend?

For most customers, we recommend the Compustar T13 or CS7900-AS systems. They offer excellent range, 2-way confirmation, and can be upgraded with DroneMobile smartphone control at any time. Contact us to schedule your installation.
